The Giants Have the Worst Plate Discipline in Baseball

August 27, 2009

Courtesy of Aadik at McCovey Chronicles.  This goes without saying, but if the Giants could actually learn to take some walks and stop swinging at everything, they might actually score some runs.  Maybe the reason why fans aren’t clamoring for Carney Lansford’s departure is because the Giants as a whole are hitting .260, which is slightly below MLB average (.263).
I suppose this begs the question as to how much of an impact a hitting coach has on a player’s approach at the plate.

In any case, the Giants need to start showing some discipline if they really want to take off as a powerhouse.  Buster Posey will certainly help in that regard, and there might be a few free agents available that could help.
