Giants Agree to Terms with First-Round Pick
August 16, 2010
According to Kendall Rogers, the Giants have agreed to terms with first-round pick (24th overall) Gary Brown, out of Cal State Fullerton. The speedy center fielder is reportedly signing for $1.45 million, which is pretty close to slot money. Not a bad signing, considering he’s represented by Scott Boras- I was afraid they’d have to pay a premium. I’ve written extensively about Brown before, most notably about my concern with his uninspiring walk rate, but I hope he can either maintain an outstanding contact rate or become more patient and selective at the plate.
UPDATE: According to John Manuel, Brown has signed for $1.45 million.
